• Booting once-only – GNU GRUB Manual 0.97 – You can teach GRUB to boot an entry only at next boot time. Suppose that your have an old kernel old_kernel and a new kernel new_kernel. You know that old_kernel can boot your system correctly, and you want to test new_kernel.
To ensure that your system will go back to the old kernel even if the new kernel fails (e.g. it panics), you can specify that GRUB should try the new kernel only once and boot the old kernel after that.
Finally, the current log is moved and a new log file is created. The newsyslog program can also compress files, restart daemons, and in general handle all the routine tasks of shuffling files[…]

 • newswall is a tool to display feeds and e-mails. – Just like on a "news wall" all messages – sorted by date and time – show up in small blocks, if possible together with an image. That way it is easy to find the most important and interesting news and then have a closer look at these. So it is sort of a feed reader mixed with an e-mail viewer having the look of an image gallery. Or so… Might also be a good choice for the iPad – and other tablets, too 😉 […]
• ottimizzazioni (quasi) estreme – In fondo, perché far ricomprimere ad Apache lo stesso file centomila volte al giorno, se questo non cambia praticamente mai? • Trouble-Maker – Being a system administrator is full of interesting challenges. We like this. However, some of these challenges can be problematic, if they cause service interrupts on production systems. Most system administrators have run into the situation where something is wrong, the server is down, and we don't know what is going on. This project attempts to help.

There are a lot of tools out there to make the system administrator's life easier. However, no tool is a replacement for properly understanding the system and experience in troubleshooting unknown situations. This is where Trouble-Maker comes in. Unlike other projects, we do not attempt to solve problems — we cause them.
